Some words on prenatal massage from your massage therapist, Dana.
I'm a certified prenatal and postpartum massage therapist, with 25+ years of experience. I'm a working mother of two and a former birth Doula. When I come to your home, you will be in the hands of a nurturing, skilled and knowledgeable bodyworker who is in tune with the demands and experience of motherhood.
Whether you are in your first trimester, close to your due date, or 2 days Postpartum, there is a lot of relief and relaxation that can come with receiving consistent massage. I'm looking forward to helping you.
The Benefits of Prenatal Massage
-
Helps with back pain
Relieve pregnancy discomforts such as sciatic pain, low back pain, round ligament pain, headaches, water retention, hip pain and general stress relief.
-
Prepares you for labor
Provides relief from lumbar stress due to your growing belly, relaxes the Sacrum and Round Ligaments so your baby can have space to move into optimal positioning for labor.
-
Helps avoid induction
Prenatal massage can help start labor with acupressure points if you are going past your expected due date and want to avoid being induced via Pitocin.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Answer: I do not require a doctor's note if you are having a normal pregnancy. For high-risk pregnancies a doctors note should be obtained.
No. I have provided many women with wonderful massages during their first trimester. I know the areas on the pregnant body to avoid and I do not work deep during this time. My massages are tailored to the client’s needs. There have been sessions I have spent working only on a client’s hands, feet, neck and arms. It depends what the client needs and what is discussed before the session starts.
You may undress to your comfort level. I work on a massage table with two sheets which you will be laying between (like your in bed.)
At no time will you be exposed and I am very aware of draping my clients properly so they feel warm and secure.
The only part of your body that will be exposed is the part that I am working on.
This is the BEST time to get a massage!! Sometimes getting a massage in early labor can relax you just enough so your body can go into fully active labor. You can go through contractions while you are the table with me assisting you (I was a Birth Doula).
Also, if you are trying to avoid induction, I can work acupressure points to aid in making the contractions stronger and more consistent.
Also, if you have a prolonged first stage labor, sometimes getting a massage can be a good distraction from just waiting around for “real” labor to start.
No, I don't. Everyone’s pregnant belly is a different shape and size therefore there is not a “one size fits all” hole! Also, having the weight of your baby pulling down on your lower back while you are laying face down is is not a good thing.
I use The Body Cushion, a system of cushions specifically designed to fit any woman’s body, pregnant or not. When I was pregnant I loved laying on it and would sometimes fall asleep on it.
All my pregnant clients love it and upon laying on it immediately say, “I wish I had one of these to sleep on at home.” Or:“Wow! This is the most comfortable I’ve felt in months!”
I work with you side-lying and supine (face up) propped up with extra pillows.
Tell your partner to take the kids out for an hour or two, and give yourself this time. You deserve it.
